My 14-year old son is on the verge of completing his freshman year of homeschooling. We are studying algebra this year, but I find that most of it is useless unless a person plans on becoming a rocket scientist or math teacher! What alternatives are there in this field besicdes geometry, calculus and the higher maths. My son has no intention of going to college and I need to find a math that is practical in everyday life. Any suggestions?

Nowadays, many parents choose homeschooling for their children’s education. Studies show that families in the US preferring to homeschool their children are climbing. Why is this so? One of the reasons is because of the many benefits it can offer. Here are some of the reasons why:
They can choose other activities that are according to the skills their children have potential in. For example, guitar or piano classes, sports, theatrical activities aside to the academic courses. Children at the same time do not get bored since the program engages in different activities and variations.

I am interested in trying to homeschool my toddler, and if it works out possibly continuing to homeschool him later. Does anyone know of any good homeschooling curriculum that starts with toddler/preschool and continues on. Also, I would prefer something non-religious (especially in the sciences), since I want him to learn about evolution and not creationism. Thanks. I should clarify…I have no problems with a Christian program, as long as it teaches evolution and the sciences as they are taught in the public schools. Additional Christian lessons about faith, etc, are no problem. Thanks.

Searching for homeschool books online can lead to fantastic savings for today’s busy homeschool parents.
There is no shortage of curriculum companies marketing their wares to home educating families. Even the smallest entrepreneur finds a way to market their books on the internet. Let’s look at some great sites for finding homeschool curriculum online.
Most everyone is familiar with large publishers like A beka, Bob Jones, Alpha Omega, etc., but did you know that there are great deals waiting to be snagged at sites like Second Harvest Curriculum, Shekinah Curriculum Cellar or Rainbow Resource? These smaller sites offer many great homeschool books More >

There seems to be a growing belief in this forum that homeschooled kids spend a large portion of their days watching TV or playing video games. If you homeschool your kids, please share how much time they spend on average each day or what their limits may be for a week.
For us, our kids are usually not allowed any TV, videos or video games during the week. They are usually allowed one video on the weekend and some video game playing time–30 minutes each Friday evening and then again on Saturday. So, they don’t even actually watch any TV (cable) More >

So you homeschool – that is great! Homeschooling is wonderful, we have been enjoying it ourselves for a number of years and we love it.
The big question – I have all this great stuff – where do I put it? How do I organize the papers, and pencils and pens and those little tiny bears and don’t even get me started on the books, oh my the books. I have the stuff, now I need to know how to organize it all.
First – take a deep breathe and know that you are not alone, either in your homeschool journey or More >

I’m looking at homeschooling for the next few years, but the things is, my parents can’t be there full time to “teach me”. As far as I’ve seen on the sites, it’s prevelant that the parents have a huge part in the schooling. I’d like to instead take school fully online and have it be less of a burden on my parents. Is this possible? Is it really necessary for me to have my parents teaching me? And how about sites or online schools that are high quality?
