It’s especially good if you really love literature. I’m not sure how good it is, though, for kids with ADD/ADHD. There’s a lot of reading for both you and the child.

Need Advice on Homeschooling….?

Question by jilland4kids: Need Advice on Homeschooling….? My kids have always been in Catholic School — which I LOVE. There are no concerns/problems with their school and I planned to volunteer in the 3rd grade and a Kindergarten classes. Then, it hit me — I’ll homeschool the kids with a Catholic curriculum. I have very mixed feelings. Academically/socially the kids will do great. We’ll do extracurricular activities and meet other homeschoolers. However, my daughter will make her First Communion & Confirmation this year, and I would like her to be instructed with her friends. She also wants to join choir.

What is your opinion of the A.C.E. homeschool curriculum?

Question by I am a Mom: What is your opinion of the A.C.E. homeschool curriculum? I am not asking opinions of homeschooling in general (I know there are people who are opposed). I would like honest opinions from those who are familiar with the curriculum. Were the kids bored with the continual seclusion from a teacher? Does the curriculum challenge the kids to academic excellence (does it produce college ready students)?

Here are some ideas on how to create, maintain, and present your homeschool portfolio for a successful assessment, evaluation and review.

First of all, it is important to have a firm grasp on precisely what a homeschool portfolio is. Basically, a homeschool portfolio is a collection of materials that are used in order to showcase what your child has learned over the course of the “school year.” This

Reasons for Homeschooling Growing

|A growing number of people are choosing to homeschool their children rather than sending them off to the general public school system. There are a number of reasons that parents cite with this increasing trend ranging from concerns concerning the declining quality of education present in certain school districts to personal convictions about the worldview being communicated to their kids.

Increasingly more states will also be starting to make allowances for families who choose to educate their kids in your own home. While there are still those who are opposed to homeschooling in general, there are a growing number of

Why do people drive their kids to public schools when adequate bus service is provided?

Question by Polish Meg: Why do people drive their kids to public schools when adequate bus service is provided? My husband commutes 25 miles each way from a rural area outside of Huntsville, AL to a job in the city. On weekdays when school is not in session the roads aren’t particularly crowded so his commute only takes about 25 minutes. When school is in session the trip can take him up to 45 minutes. ADD + Homeschool Math Curriculum = A Success Story?

In a recent article (9/22/10) in Time Magazine’s Healthland, entitled ADHD: Global Epidemic or Just a Bunch of Fidgety Kids? John Cloud asks if dosing children with stimulants like Ritalin may be an overreaction to simple fidgeting. Nearly 3% of U.S. schoolchildren now take stimulant drugs like Ritalin, most of them boys between the ages of 6 and 14. Removing your children from the classroom (and hence the need to sit still) to homeschool them may be a viable solution. And of all subjects, math may benefit most from a homeschool curriculum.
