Unique Homeschool Math Curriculum Game
Nov 17th
Article by Marin Lipowitz
Cross-curricular integration is valuable with all subjects, but is especially important with math and language arts. Rhythmic recitation will enhance your homeschool math curriculum in many ways. Most importantly, the rhythmic element, essential to success in math, is strengthened by daily recitation. Classic poetry, songs, limericks. and especially jump rope and clapping verses are a great combination with math facts memorization.
In the early grades, as skip counting is used for learning beginning times tables, you will find that a number of well-known songs and rhymes can be used as a perfect match. Holiday songs are a great More >
D’nealian Handwriting Curriculum Stirs Up Debate Among Homeschool and School Teachers
Nov 4th
What is D’nealian handwriting? D’nealian is an alternative to the traditional style of manuscript handwriting. It is more like cursive than traditional manuscript. It combines some elements from traditional manuscript and some from cursive resulting in a new style which is somewhere in between the two.
This new handwriting style was created by an elementary school teacher named Donald Neal Thurber. The name comes from his first initial combined with his middle name. While it has rapidly gained supporters, D’nealian school and home school curriculum materials can be somewhat difficult to find because they are published exclusively by Pearson Education. Einstein And Your Homeschool Math Curriculum
Sep 20th
Albert Einstein, arguably the greatest mathematician/scientist of our or any time, was by no means an honor student. School was not to his liking, and he did not excel in his classes. But he was able in spite of (or perhaps because of) that “shortcoming” to successfully nurture an inner genius that was prolific, productive, and formidable. A homeschool environment is perhaps then the most likely option for children whose particular genius does not fare well in the classroom.
Here’s what Einstein had to say about exams, “One had to cram all this stuff into one’s mind for the examinations, More >

Add Some Personality to Your Homeschool Math Curriculum
Sep 4th
Article by Marin Lipowitz
Since math is the most likely of all your homeschool subjects to be taught and learned in an abstract way, you may very well see a corresponding lack of liveliness, interest, and enthusiasm for the subject. But you can make it more agreeable and inviting by infusing and enlivening it with a bit of character and personality. This enhancement, beyond being merely utilitarian, also touches on the true nature and deeper qualities of math.
Laying a strong and positive foundation in your homeschool math first grade curriculum is essential. Regrouping or recouping interest and confidence in math later, More >

Question by Katelin: Is there a non-christian homeschool curriculum that uses workbooks instead of textbooks? (NOT LIFEPAC)? TY i need grades 7-12

Answer by hsmomlovinitI’m sure there is – I’d suggest checking at http://rainbowresource.com/index.php. Just go in the subject you’re looking for and they’ll give you a list of subtopics – texts, full curriculum, workbooks, etc. In the upper grades it’s going to be a bit more difficult to find, but it’s got to be out there.
Spectrum might produce what you’re looking for? As far as I know, Rainbow carries those.
Sorry, I don’t know of anything more specific than that More >

Aug 16th
Article by Ken Cunningham
These days, kids are under a lot of stress. With shows like ‘Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader’, the belief has been driven home that if a person doesn’t get the right education, then they can pretty much kiss their future goodbye. Both public and private schools are being held to a much higher standard and because of that, our children are going to schools that are desperately trying to bat one another out of the ranking. That means more standardized tests, more schoolwork, and less time to help an individual child with his or her More >
