Socialisation Opportunities For The Homeschooled Child

Perhaps the biggest concern your family and friends will express when you tell them that you are going to homeschool is how your children are going to learn to socialise with their peers if they are not in school.  This is a common fear, and it can be valid in some cases, but for most of the homeschooling families that I know, or have met, it is a misplaced fear.

There are several ways to ensure that your child has every opportunity to develop into a well-adjusted member of society, with friends of many ages.  And this interaction doesn’t

Physical Education For Your Homeschooled Child

How do you offer physical education & after school sports to your homeschoolers?

Physical education is a requirement in school, but when you homeschool your children you don’t have a gym readily available. So how do you offer physical education and after school sports to your children? Here are a couple of things you can try.

One way to offer physical education to your children is to call the Boys and Girls Club in your area and see if they offer their gym to homeschoolers. If they don’t, see if they would allow you to set up a time

What is a great elementary math software curriculum for homeschooled daughter?

My almost 9 yo visual learner daughter is needing comprehensive math software curriculum. She just started refreshing her addition and subtraction skills on ZooZillions. She is great at concepts, visual problems, reading problems. Not so good at rote memorization, drilling facts, etc. We need something that is interactive but thorough. No online freebies for games, please. We are a homeschool family with a teaching background. Thank you!

From what I’m reading it’s really great, but it’s all so foreign to me. I guess I want to see if it’s something that I really think that I can do myself for my school age child.

Are any of you single working parents? Is it possible to do?

What can I do to help a friend’s homeschooled child who is drastically behind grade level?

I am concerned about the reading level of a 9-year-old (going into 4th grade and homeschooled). He’s not able to read basic words at a first-grade level. I am not against homeschooling, and I believe that many parents provide excellent educations for their children in the home. However, I feel that in this specific situation the child is not receiving the education he needs.

What is the best way to seek out help for him? I am not comfortable confronting the parent. The parent has been excusing the child’s deficiencies to me and other adults. For example, “well, he’s just

Can My Homeschooled Child Attend University?

The question, “Can my homeschooled child attend University?” is a perpetual one for homeschooling parents. The fact of the matter is that yes, a homeschooled child can absolutely attend university, and some institutions even lay aside spots in their freshmen classes for homeschooled students.

Many homeschooling families report that their friends and families tell them that, by homeschooling their child, they are depriving their child of the possibility of attending tertiary studies.  Fortunately, this is not the case.  All it takes is a little research into the way your preferred universities work, ahead of schedule, and you can tailor
